[Recruit] A Local Consultant for the Saemaul DEEP Programme Project in South Africa

  Korea Institute for Rural Development(KIRD) is recruiting a position of "Local Expert" under the Project of "Saemaul Mindset DEEP Programme in the Republic of South Africa(Saemaul DEEP Programme)" as below.

 

1. Brief Project Description

  The aim of the Project(Saemaul DEEP Programme) is to change the mindset and build the capacity of rural communities participating in the Comprehensive Rural Development Programme(CRDP) and National Rural Youth Service Corps(NARYSEC) youth of the Republic of South Africa though the Saemaul DEEP Programme based on the experience of Korea's Saemaul Undong(New Village Movement). The Project will be led by the Ministry of Rural Development and Land Reform (MRDLR) of the South African government in partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency(KOICA). And KOICA, the responsible authority of the Korean government entrusted the contribution from the Korean side to the Korea Institute for Rural Development(KIRD). The contribution from the Korean counterpart will be made in the three(3) major programme components: 1) Projecting master plan for Saemaul training and education in South Africa; 2) Development of curriculum and course material for Saemaul training and education in NARYSEC; 3) Extending field consultancy services to the two(2) pilot villages - Amajingqi Village, Willowvale in the Amathole District, Eastern Cape State, and Makolokoeng Village in the Thabo Mofutsanyane District, Free State. The Project will be carried out through to 2017 by the end of 2018.

 

2. Notice for Recruiting a Local Expert for Managing the Project

 A. Position: Local Consultant of Rural and Community Development in South Africa

  B. Duties:

  1) Running and maintaining the local office of the Project in Pretoria, South Africa

  2) Assisting in project implementation and the management of the Project in South Africa

  3) Providing the KIRD field mission with support and advice for constructive field activities in

    South Africa

  4) Performing liaison function between the Korean Project Mission and the South African       

    counterpart authorities and key beneficiaries in South Korea.

  5) Other activities including local trips and surveys, and activity reporting mutually agreed between

    KIRD and the Local Consultant 

 C. Qualifications
  1) To be a South African National

  2) To possess a solid knowledge and at least 3 years research and education or field activities,

    especially in the area of rural development, community empowerment, and/or Saemaul Undong

  3) To possess a good contextual knowledge of South Africa and local conditions    

  4) Good command of English and some basic competence in local language


 D. Terms of contract
  1) Period of contract: 22months(February 2017 ~ December 2018)
  2) Salary and allowances: To be negotiated

  3) Detailed terms of the job: To be negotiated except the duties mentioned above
