inhabitants actively participate in the Saemaul Undong Project.
H.E. Mr. Santiphap PHOMVIHAN, the governor of Savannakhet province and
relevant authorities of departments visited the pilot villages in Saemaul Undong project at Champhone and Songkhone districts on 13th
March 2017.
He found that many villagers of the pilot villages have
self-motivation to actively participate in this project.
H.E. Mr. Santiphap PHOMVIHAN visited the project of Saemaul Undong which is supported
by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in Lao PDR. The project
targets 13 pilot villages in 2 districts, Songkhone (5 villages) and Champhone (8 villages) with the total budget of 3.9 million US
dollars, and consists of 2 main components which are income generation activity
such as grassland establishment, mushroom cultivation, orchard farm, green
house, home garden etc., and infrastructure construction to develop
communities, for example the village offices, access road to the villages,
village hall, renovation and repairing schools, waste treatment and village¡¯s
market, access the water supply and others which reflect the need of each village.
Since the project started, the project has made good
progress because of the active participation of the villagers in this project.
Therefore, the construction of 13 village offices (by contribution of project
70%, villagers 30%), access road for 12 villages (by contribution of project
70%, villagers 30%), access water supply to 400 households (by contribution of
project 50%, villagers 50%) and other sub-activities have been completed.
This year, the Saemaul Undong project will
continue to implement the activities related with promotion of community
development and income generation to eradicate poverty step by step in line
with the Lao government policy.
