Minister of Agriculture & Forestry visits Vientiane SMU villages




 

On May 5, 2017, H.E. Dr. Liane Thykeo, Minister of Agriculture & Forestry, led a 30-member delegation on visits to the Vientiane SMU villages of Kokieng, Viengkeo, and Tinyoung.

 

At Kokieng Village, the delegation attended a presentation by a village leader regarding Lao Integrated Rural Development in Lao PDR; there was then a Q&A sessions in which 40 villagers participated. The delegation then visited a mushroom cultivation site and vegetable rain-shed projects, and shared words of encouragement with the villagers. At Viengkeo Village, 70 villagers welcomed Minister Liane Thykeo¡¯s visit and joined a discussion about success and failure cases of the mushroom project.

The Minister emphasized that the Sam-sang policy should implemented in conjunction with the Saemaul Undong project so as to ensure improved performance.

 

The delegation then moved to Tinyoung Village, which has specialized in a cattle-raising pilot project, and reviewed tables on grassland and standardized feeding. Through this project, the average weight of cattle has increased by more than 500g on a daily basis.


Minister Liane Thykeo expressed special gratitude to the KOICA experts for their efforts and offered best wishes for the success of the project.
