Capacity Building Program on Rural and Community Development for Nigeria


 

  The Korea Institute for Rural Development(KIRD)(President: Dr. Chung Ki Whan) offers a invitational fellowship course for the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria: Rural Village and Community Development - The 3rd Year Course of a KOICA Multi-year Fellowship Program "Capacity Building Program on Rural and Community Development for Nigeria". Entrusted by the Korea International Cooperation Agency(KOICA), KIRD implements the course from April 19 to May 4, 2018 at KOICA, Seongnam, Korea.   

  The short-term fellowship course this year in 2018, the last one of the three-year fellowship program 2016-2018 aims more detail to help build capacity for projecting rural development program in village and community level. Nineteen(19) policy practitioners and rural development officers from National Assembly and the federal ministries of Nigeria - Rural Rehabilitation and Development (RRDK); Budget and National Planning; Women Affairs and Social Development; and Science and Technology as well as a number of local governments of Cross River, Katsina, Benue, Kaduna, and Delta State takes part in the course.


  Keeping a consistency of learning framework with the previous program course in 2016 and 2017, this year's course will focus on building capacity for projecting and implementing rural development projects and programs in the level of rural villages and communities in particular. The learning modules of the course are 1) to learn the basics of rural village and community development; 2) to study some cases of community-based rural village development planning and programming; and 3) to learn the practices of village development planning and implementation in the field.


  The core learning activities of this training program take place in Naehyun- Ri(Turtle Village) in Guhang-myeon(Sub-county), Hongseong-gun(County), Chungcheongnam-do(Province). During the four(4)-day program in Hongsung region we will share the Korea¡¯s experience of rural and community development in the village through on-site lectures, case studies, and field visits there. The Nigerian fellows are expected to deepen understanding on community development with participatory, rural grass roots approach, especially Saemaul Undong methodology, and also explore the possibility of applying Korea¡¯s mode of rural village and community development to Nigeria.
