Countrywide awareness workshop launched for reforestation & rural development

KABUL: A S. Korean expert team visited Afghanistan, where the members shared their experiences through a 2-day workshop with the ministry of rural rehabilitation and development (MRRD) and MAIL officials, an official said the other day.

Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, Nasir Ahmad Durrani spoke about the importance of the rural development programs managed by the Korean government in Afghanistan and called exchanging views between the two countries¡¯ professional teams very helpful.
¡°The Saemaul Undong or New Village Movement and its implementation is very crucial to Afghanistan, particularly, at a time when the international community¡¯s aids decrease,¡± said a statement quoting Minister Durrani who asked both government and the people of Afghanistan to efficiently use the support available.
The minister called participation of communities in development of the country essential and support to Afghanistan in implementation of the projects and in rural development and agriculture sector vital, the statement added.
The statement further said, ¡®the time has now reached to join hand, under the international community¡¯s support, to support both countries¡¯ governments, support the people to build country with boundless struggles.¡¯
According to the statement, the NVM is a true model to tackle down most of our issues that I just mentioned and it is the model that can lead the communities towards independency.
The development and adoption of this spirit by the rural people was a key driver for the community contribution to and ownership of the process, it is this spirit that created the rural development vision that the people strongly believed in and want to work together to achieve . The attention to what the rural people thought and what they valued ensure people¡¯s participation and contribution.
In addition to the New Village Movement, I was derived by the approach of forest restoration when Professor Lee described it to me, I am inspired by his insights and would like to read more about it through the book he wrote.
Forest Management, Forest restoration is also a key priority for the afghan Government to encourage communities to participate, restore and save the forest in conclusion, I would like to call on all participants to fully cooperate and take the maximum gain from this workshop and absorb as much information as you can. I look forward to seeing our communities begin the implementation of new village movement in rural areas. Meanwhile, the Korean ambassador Chin Ki Hoon spoke at the meeting and said both Afghanistan and Korean had good and friendly relation and was willing Afghanistan to have developed in rural and village fields like Korea.
¡°So, a team has now arrived in Afghanistan from Korea to exchange views and share their experiences on rural development," said the ambassador.
The representative of KOICA Afghanistan office also said this was the first a team from Korea has arrived in Afghanistan, where it can help in capacity building and developing the Afghan villages.
Chief Executive Officer of the National Development Program for Afghanistan Industries, Rahmatullah Quraishi called holding such workshop, very important and extremely helpful in development of villages in the country, as the S. Korean had launched the program in Afghanistan, like those popular in the world. ¡°As one of the world advanced country, S. Korean wants the experiences get operational in Afghanistan.¡±
According to Quraishi, one of the reason behind what he said a Korean interest to apply the project in Afghanistan, was that like Korea, Afghanistan was a post-war nation and developing country, so both Koreans and their government could join hand to launch the project in Afghanistan and wanted to provide the war-torn country with rural and development and forest restoration program in the future, as well.
Meanwhile, Dr. Han, one of the Korean experts who traveled to many provinces of other countries shared his experiences in new village movement.
