Consecutive to the 1st year invitational fellowship course of the in November 2015, the Korea Institute for Rural Development (KIRD) offers the 2nd year course: Strengthen Low Income Families through Women in Rural Area of Sri Lanka. Entrusted by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) KIRD designed the short-term country fellowship program in which eighteen (18) policy practitioners and researchers from various government authorities of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka including the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, the Ministry of Social Empowerment and Welfare, and the Ministry of Rural Economic Affairs take part from June 3 to 17, 2016 in Seognam, Korea.

The multi-year country fellowship program aims to help strengthen the capacity of middle-level policy practitioners, administrators and researchers in policy planning and program implementation for promoting awareness of women's role in rural economy and developing capacity building projects and programs for rural women in Sri Lanka. While sharing the Korea¡¯s development experiences in this target area of global issue 'gender equity' and 'Gender and Development(GAD)', especially in rural area. The program is one of the 3-multi-year country fellowship programs through which a series of short-term fellowship courses are designed and conducted annually for three years from 2015 to 2017 in a consecutive manner.

 

In recognition of the 1st year course in 2015, the second year fellowship course in 2016 will deepen the depth of the objectives and contents of the program toward helping learn practical skills and knowhow for developing GAD mainstreaming and women development programming: (1) to Provide technical tools and knowledge in planning, programming and implementation of women and development policies and programs; and (2) to develop programs of capacity building for supporting farm management, economic businesses and social activities of women in rural area.

 

The focus of the 2nd year fellowship course in 2016 will be highlighted in the two contents module: (1) To learn the methods and techniques of mainstreaming women development into development policies, programs and projects; and (2) To help program projects and programs for capacity building of rural women in Sri Lanka including provision of public social services and promoting farming and rural business, esp. information technology (IT) capacity development and micro& small business creation in rural area.

The program will add an extra dimension by including some cultural activities and social program for deepening mutual understanding and building partnership among the participants and between Sri Lanka and Korea. Participants will be invited to a Korean home for a dinner one evening. And they will have the chances to watch a contemporary Korean cultural performance and to visits some interesting places of historic and cultural traits.
