[Country Fellowship Program] Strengthen Low Income Families through Women in Rural Area (Sri Lanka)

KIRD entrusted by the Korea International Cooperation Agency(KOICA) offers a short-term country fellowship program titled "Strengthen Low Income Families through Women in Rural Area (Sri Lanka)". Eighteen(18) policy practitioners from various government authorities of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka take part in the fellowship training course which is scheduled from November 29 to December 12, 2015 in Seognam, Korea.

As one of the KOICA's 2015 Country Fellowship Program, the course aims to help strengthen the capacity of middle-level policy practitioners in policy planning and program implementation for promoting awareness of women's role in rural economy and developing capacity building projects and programs for rural women in Sri Lanka. While sharing the Korea's development experiences in this target area of global issue 'gender equity' and 'women in development', especially in rural area. In this 1st year fellowship course out of the 3-multi-year country fellowship program, the focus of the course this year will be placed on the module of policy formulation, legal and institutional development, and capacity development in programming projects and programs both for  promoting gender equity and strengthening capacity of women in rural area.

The contents of the Program will be designed based on the three pillars of training module: (1) Module 1 [Policy & Institutional Development] to share development experience in the policies and institutional arrangements for improving gender equity and capacity development of women in rural area; (2) Module 2 [Programming Social Development Program] to help developing programs for supporting social services of rural women; (3) Module 3 [Programming Economic Capacity Development Program] to help developing programs for nurturing human and economic capacity of rural women in Sri Lanka. The professional program consists of lectures, case studies and discussions on important issues of common interests among the participants as well as Korea¡¯s experience in those issues. And a series of study visits and field trips closely related to the lectures and case studies in the classroom will be arranged including a number of research institutes, public organizations, and private entities as well as rural villages. 

The program will add an extra dimension by including some cultural activities and social program for deepening mutual understanding and building partnership among the participants and between Sri Lanka and Korea. Participants will be invited to a Korean home for a dinner one evening. And they will have the chances to watch a contemporary Korean cultural performance and to visits some interesting places of historic and cultural traits.
